Still Not Ready for Anime Expo, But It's All Good...

I really should remove the clutter in my closet...

Well last year's Anime Expo taught me to expect the unexpected, such as the fact the Michael Jackson's death really wreaked havoc on the hotel arrangements (getting a single bed for the room holding four adults wasn't fun, but the rollaway was thrown in for free. However, since the room was meant for a single bed, the rollaway ate up what little floor space was left). So I think for this year, I should keep my schedule really open as to what to do. I found some things I'm interested in seeing, but I think there's only maybe two or three events I really will work my schedule around...if you wanna find me, here's what my cosplays will hopefully be for Anime Expo 2010...if I don't slack off and actually finish completing/updating them...

Dororo (Sgt. Frog)
Needed to complete:
apply red shuriken symbol on hat
maybe fix white t-shirt with shuriken symbol as it appears too big. It can only be seen if I open up the jumpsuit. Maybe make a quick shuriken necklace out of balsa wood to wear if I decide to zip up.
maybe get Under Armor skullcap to absorb the forehead sweat

Nabeshin (Excel Saga, Nerima Daikon Brothers, Puni Puni Poemy, etc...)
Needed to complete:
get blue dress shirt (preferably from a thrift store to meet my personal goal of showing that cosplay shouldn't be an expensive hobby...I got the red jacket at a thrift store for $4)
get afro wig

Meito Anizawa (Lucky Star, Anime Tencho)
pick buttons to apply to apron-the improvements I made on the turtleneck were really good, and I made a new nametag since I decided to print a new one to make it look more like a store employee...

Well Hotwire put me in a hotel that's a little drive from Anime Expo, but hopefully I'll be near some great food options for my down time...and I'll be able to get some sleep as I'll be away from the kids...I hope.

Hmmm...I Forgot I Created This Blog for a Cosplay Scavenger Hunt...

Well it's been a while since I came up with a scavenger hunt list (and I've been lazy working on my Sgt. Frog and Nabeshin cosplays for Anime Expo and lazy catching up on new anime), so I think I should refocus what I want to see at during the new event season, which for me starts with Anime Expo (Japan Expo in France, your day will come...)

Let's see, maybe I should start with that which is most familiar in anime, school uniforms:

Hidamari Sketch (I just started watching, and I am enjoying it a lot)
Shuffle!
K-On! (Is AX too early to see a Death Devil cosplay?)
Azumanga Daioh
Clannad
Kanon (still seems rare to see, and it borders on being too Santa Claus-y)
Air
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (bonus for Nagato bunny headphones)
Prince of Tennis (still haven't watched)
Eyeshield 21 (with USC's bowl game ban, this may be the only excitement I'll get from football in a while, still haven't watched...the NCAA should punish those involved, not the current roster...)
Shangri-La (okay, Kuniko is not really a student, but it's probably the only thing that kept me attracted to the show as it really got weird towards the end...)
Azumanga Daioh
Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunso...I just don't wanna be the only person cosplaying from this series...)
Lucky Star
Rosario + Vampire (happy to see it picked up by Funimation)
Toradora! (happy to see it coming to DVD in Region 1, I wonder if for Capu2, they'll release an uncensored version, though the version with the bear images censoring stuff does make for a fun drinking game...)
Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens
Samurai Harem (Asu No Yoichi...if I only saw this earlier, I would've worked on a cosplay for this, though I don't feel I deserve to wear a hakama, even a blue one, yet)
Negima!(?!,?,@, and all the other symbols used in the title)
Full Metal Panic!

The above looks like ones I might actually find, now the ones I would be really amazed to see...(okay, I'm just looking down my DVD shelf)

To Heart (I would like to see Tsukasa Hiiragi cosplay as this...)
Bamboo Blade (kendo team uniform or school uniform)
Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl
Girls' High (High School Girls, Joshi Kōsei)
Suzuka (though I have seen on Cosplay.com a girl doing the track team outfit)
His and Her Circumstances (Kare Kanno)
Mahoromatic

If I have time, I'll add to this list prior to AX to make this my scavenger hunt list for the 2010/11 season...any suggestions on what else to add?

Travels with Yui: Oahu, Hawaii Part 3 - Dining with Yui

Here are some things I ate while I was in Oahu:

My first meal in Oahu, the signature teriyaki burger at Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu (to be replaced with a new location in Waikiki):

Portuguese sausage scramble at Eggs 'n Things:

Fried Mahi Mahi at Coral Kingdom (for the SoCal folks, this is like the Barstow Station of Oahu, but with only one restaurant and no gas station nearby):

Dole whip float (in a souvenir pineapple) at Dole Plantation:

More pineapple goodness:

Some POG (pineapple, orange, guava drink):

A Big Mac meal in Waikiki (all meals come with pineapple):

Some poi and other Hawaiian classics such as fried chicken and teriyaki beef (okay, there was also kalua pork and macaroni salad) along with a virgin blue Hawaii, and a weak mai tai at Germaine's Luau:

Some fried rice as a side dish to a ramen lunch at Ramen Ezogiku at Kalakaua Ave:

Some mango shave ice at Tropical Iceland at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center at Kalakaua Ave:

Some taiyaki (apple cream cheese and Oreo filling) picked up at Shirokiya in Ala Moana Center:

Some famous regular and cream filled malasadas from Leonard's Bakery:

Well my first meal was familiar, so I guess it was fitting my last meal in Oahu would be something familiar, a roast beef dinner from Lahaina Chicken at the airport:

Well that was just a small glimpse of my time in Hawaii hanging out with my friend and Yui...the rest of the story I will share with close friends and family...

Travels with Yui: Oahu, Hawaii Part 2 - Sightseeing With Yui

Well this vacation was still a birthday present for me and a chance to relax for my friend before she moves on to the next step of her career, so it's not like I stopped everywhere to get a Yui pic, but here are some places I did take a pic...

Like in windward Oahu, particularly Kane'ohe:

Or stopping to sample macadamia nuts (or finding where you are in relation to the rest of the world) in Tropical Farms:

Or enjoying pineapple at Dole Plantation in Wahiawa:

This is where I got lost in the world's largest maze in the rain trying to break the record for finding all 8 stations without a map (bad idea considering I never saw the maze before...).

Of course, being on an island, water activities would be part of the trip, such as kayaking in Kailua...I came prepared...

From Kailua, you can kayak to a bird sanctuary on one of the Mokulua Islands (for the novice kayaker) or Flat Island (for the more experienced...not part of my trip...)

On this rocky island, you can see the remains of crabs that washed up and got trapped in the holes found all around the island...

I also hiked up Diamond Head, which at one time was part of the U.S. Army Coastal Artillery defense system...too bad I was out of shape to hike up the narrow paths and stairs that were already filled with tourists so early in the morning...

Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay was relaxing after the hike though...Because it was protected land, I didn't think about dunking Yui into the water...

Also hanging out a little bit in downtown Honolulu, particularly Chinatown:

and seeing historic landmarks like Iolani Palace:

and local treats like malasadas (a type of donut) at Leonard's Bakery:

And eventually checking out some things on Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki:

Taking these pics does take a lot out of me as I end up taking two pics, one with and one without Yui...Actually many of the pics of Yui are of me with Yui clipped to my backpack. Since I don't like posting pics of myself out of cosplay on this blog, those pics will probably not make it here. However, I did take a pic of almost every meal I had in Oahu with Yui...

Travels with Yui: Oahu, Hawaii Part 1 - Prologue

For my vacation, my human friend wanted to go to a place warm...so Oahu we went...Of course, I had to bring Yui with me...

I've decided to organize the pics I took of the plushie into two parts, places and food. I didn't take a pic of Yui everywhere I went because of time, didn't bring my backpack , and/or it would appear inappropriate (so no pics at Pearl Harbor or any religious places I visited).

My first pics in Hawaii didn't turn out well, though...

You should see the Honolulu International Airport sign clearly in the background...
