The Las Vegas Great Santa Run 2011 Part 1: A Very Cold Morning to Break a World Record

According to the local news, the world record for most runners in Santa suits was reclaimed by Vegas with 8,123 participants between the 5K and 1 mile walk.  Now this event is an annual fundraiser for Opportunity Village, a charity that helps people with severe intellectual disabilities.

The event was held at Town Square this year.  The location is on the Strip near the airport.  I guess it was held here instead of downtown Las Vegas because of its close proximity to the start line for the Las Vegas Rock 'n Roll marathon being held the next day so it can attract the runners staying at the nearby Mandalay Bay and Luxor resorts...
I was too busy finding pre-race water to catch all the pre-race acts, but some big local celebrities show up...Such as current Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman (who, by the way, is wife of former mayor/famous mob lawyer/popular Las Vegan Oscar Goodman)...

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous host Robin Leach who enjoyed the luxury of staying warm...

America's Got Talent winner Terry Fator...

 The Jabbawockeez dance crew...

The 5K was kicked off with some flying Santas...

Of course, the real Santa wanted to stay on the ground...

There were also some characters for the kids who didn't wanna meet Santa...

Next up...variations of a Santa theme...
